Frankie, Day 8

Eight days after she was horribly injured by a grouchy hen, little Frankie is doing great. She has new skin on the sides of her head. Her bad eye opens a bit farther each day. She’s active and happy, and yes, still addicted to shredded Monterey Jack cheese.

She doesn’t like me very much. Whenever I show up, she peeps her head off and burrows under her mom. I guess, like any sick kid, she’s sick of all the doctoring and just wants to be normal. πŸ™‚

  1. I thought she sounded funny too, but I didn’t want to hurt her feelings πŸ™‚ Remind me again what kind of chickens they are? Sometime today, I plan to do a post myself about chickens, because somehow I have become surrounded by chickens, in a sort of virtual way.

    • I have a confession. I let another hen hatch a chick so Frankie would have someone to hang out with when she gets old enough for her mom to cut her off. Lone chicks at that age are… lonely.

So now I have two chicks to worry about. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Linda.
Frankie is really starting to grow now, and her eyes are open all the way WIDE. She even has some fuzz growing in around them. By the time she’s full grown, that wound will be nothing more than a scar on the top of her head. Yay! πŸ™‚
